6/10/13 Roosevelt Truck Trail (Minerva in Essex Co.)
I took a late day hike on the beginning of the Roosevelt Truck Trail and
found a male Black-backed Woodpecker, a pair of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers
carrying food, a vocal Boreal Chickadee, a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher, and a
SwainsonÂ’s Thrush
The adult ibis was seen this afternoon with about 30 Glossy Ibis roosting at
the back of Big Johns Pond. The birds were to the left of the barn Owl/raccoon
box. The tide was high. Ibis were comming and going the whole time we were
there. The bird was last seen flying out towards the east pond.
This morning (6:23 -10:30) on a hike up Slide Mt.in less than ideal
conditions the usual breeding birds were either heard or seen on the
ascent: Red-eyed Vireo, Ovenbird, American Redstart, Black-throated Green
Warbler, Black-throated Blue Warbler, Black-and-white Warbler, Magnolia
Warbler and
Hi All,
I did not see any reports yet today so I thought I would just mention that
the Mississippi Kite continued near the pond at Cemetery of the
Resurrection around 230pm. An adult Bald Eagle also did a quick flyby, as
well as a distant Black Vulture.

Thanks Kathy.
To support your post. I picked up a MSG late last night from Eric Miller who
reported that there were possibly even more than the 5 Arctic Terns on the
Cupsogue Flats yesterday that was posted.
BTW, Eric lost his cell phone out there. Not sure if it was lost in any of the

American White Pelican was off Dobbs Ferry at 5:30 am and flying south just
offshore, on the Hudson. I tried all the waterfront parks south to Yonkers
but didn't see the bird again. Presumably this was the bird seen at
Piermont yesterday. Gail Benson

My post from yesterday should have stated that I was birding before low tide. I
was on my way out at low tide and by then the scattered birds had coalesced
into one larger group.
