A solitary female Bobwhite was seen this morning, outside the eastern
wall of World Gym, Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays. It was observed
for about 15 minutes, but was unable to be relocated a short while
later. The building borders the LIRR tracks and extensive low oak
woods.

did see a solitary sanderling, in breeding plumage, which we spent

Found shortly after sunrise today, on the Quogue-Water Mill CBC by Jim Clinton,
Jr and Mel Cowgill, a 1st winter male Harlequin Duck. The bird was relocated

A pair of Common Ravens were seen and heard this morning at the Hampton Bays
Water Authority property - same location as last summer. One bird was seen
calling from the high power wire tower along the train tracks, while the other
was foraging on the grass near the water spigot.

There were at least 3 flocks of 10-20 birds in each flock. The only shorebirds

After scanning many vacant farm fields in the Riverhead/Calverton area - all

The previously reported Snowy owl is still present, and very clearly visible,
looking east, from the bayside Tiana Beach parking area. It was seen flying
from the eastern marsh, and is now sitting on top of a shoreline hunting blind.

Currently being seen northwest corner of Fort Hill Cemetery. Park in circle
and head to right trail to top of hill, between boulders. Bird is in the
thicket on right on path.

While not dramatic, some good birds were seen this AM in the EPCAL/25a Hulse
Landing area:
E. Meadowlark- flock of 40
White- crowned Sparrow
E. Bluebird- at least 12
Bald Eagle flyover while on Grumman Blvd.

We were unable to relocate the earlier reported Barnacle Goose on either pond
near E. Main St. and Centershore Rd.

The previously reported Thick-billed Murre is currently being seen, just west,
at the very end of the east Montauk Jetty. It is visible from both sides of
the jetty.

IDed by long, wide wings, light underside, erratic flight pattern, and dark
"wrist" markings. One bird evidently caught a small rodent, which it took to a
near by shrub top.

extremely high tides during the recent storm this weekend. Dune Road was
completely flooded in sections during the storm, but most of the mess has been
cleared off the roadway now.

The previously reported Pectoral Sandpipers (6) were seen around 8AM today on
Captree Island, 50 yards west of the entrance sign, about 100 yards into the
marsh.
The Glossy Ibis was not seen.

Being seen along the Dam Trail , between the viewing spillway platform to tall
pines. First seen at 12:30. The male Hooded warbler is still in the area.
Also in the area Yellow-rumps and multiple Pine Warblers throughout the
Preserve. A Turkey Vulture flew overhead as well.

. The bird was being
harassed by a Red-bellied WP, and was last seen in the woods near home #300. I
have been unable to relocated the bird again.

A brief flurry of warbler activity this AM at QWR (finally!!), including
Black-throated Blue, Redstart, Magnolia, Common Yellowthroat, Parula,
Yellow-rump. All were seen pond-side near the entrance. Also seen were Cedar
Waxwings, Wood Duck (under the feeders!) and a Red-eyed Vireo.

led Cuckoo was heard - all on the water tower access road. A Solitary
Sandpiper made a brief stop by a large muddy puddle in the main clearing.

Yellow-crowned Night Heron, along with the usually expected terns and
shorebirds.
Before the tide began rising, dozens of Snowy Egret and Great Egrets filled the
side of road ditches - an amazing sight!

A word of caution - both East Landing and West Landing Roads in Hampton Bays
are Beach Permit parking areas from 9am-9pm. Although usually not heavily
visited, one does run the risk of getting a parking ticket on either road.
