I will also be glad to help with packaging.
O+P is already running a repo on pkg.oetiker.ch but we have not widely
publicized it.
My main use of omnios is as a server for kvm an lxzones, so I would also be
willing to help with porting updates from joyent unfortunately I have no
experience

The announcement of OmniTi to cancel OmniOS from now to then is a real
disaster not only for OmniOS users but for the whole Illumos platform.
Many users who want a free Solaris based OS especially in

Seems to have done it here:

It seems indeed you did shake things up a bit.
To give my two cents in this: I am happy to help! Although I am not a
developer - sysadmin at most, and even that is not my *primary* everyday
function - I am always eager to learn.
My current state/skills regarding OmniOS (since 2014):

My understanding from Robert's email was that they'd hand over all that
stuff. But a "community" isn't a legal entity to which someone can hand
something over. I'm doing some research on governance models that would
most-closely emulate community ownership.

It looks like https://omnios.omniti.com/wiki.php/Installation should be
updated to point to the latest release. Currently it lists `r151020` as
the current stable and `r151014` as the current LTS.

This is good news. It got me thinking a bit... a number of people,
myself included,
Couldn't agree more about github; it's where community happens.
If an org is started to manage assets, and it can likely pay for hosting
out of its operating budget.

I'm happy to stick mailing lists under the same umbrella that the
illumos and SmartOS lists use.
Lists would be f...@lists.omnios.org, under Topicbox, with a searchable /
discoverable web archive like
https://illumos.topicbox.com[1]
Cheers.
