Hi Richard,
About two years ago I bumped into the same, or at least a similar,
problem on my brand new r151014 rig: the system was able to ping hosts
on the same network segment, but a ping to my router/gateway resulted in
"no answer from / Unknown host".
In my notes from back then I find
Hello there, guys,
THE PROBLEM IN SHORT or TL;DR:
I have installed the tun/tap device within the global zone of a r151014
machine, but the /dev/tun and /dev/tap devices don't show up. What am I
missing here?
THE PROBLEM IN MORE DETAIL:
I'm trying to get OpenVPN up and running as a server
Hi Krzysztof,
Did you try the ms.omniti.com publisher,
http://pkg.omniti.com/omniti-ms/en/index.shtml ?
Python2.7 is available there, for r151014 indeed; find it under the name
“omniti/runtime/python-27”. Although not the latest version, 2.7.6 might just
be sufficient.
Not sure of any
Could this be in any way related to the issue I reported recently
(http://lists.omniti.com/pipermail/omnios-discuss/2017-July/009079.html)
where I tried to run "pkglint" in order to prepare an IPS package and
got a "MemoryError" with the specific statement that "This is an
internal error in
package worked flawlessly on r151014, but now on
r151022 it starts bugging me.

To anyone who maintains the wiki-pages on github/omniosorg,
I just stumbled upon some incomplete sentences in the
"post-install"-section.
Compare this ...:

... to this ...:
Contrary to the instructions, you might wanna try the suggestion from
Michael Talbott earlier on this list (look for a discussion titled
"[OmniOS-discuss] Python conflicts in upgrade from 20 to 22"):
Instead of entering ...
/usr/bin/pkg update --be-name=omnios-r151022entire@11,5.11-0.151022
Wow, indeed!
I see I have to catch up on reading the latest developments on the
"lobby" discussion and see when and where I can jump in.

It seems indeed you did shake things up a bit.
To give my two cents in this: I am happy to help! Although I am not a
developer - sysadmin at most, and even that is not my *primary* everyday
function - I am always eager to learn.
My current state/skills regarding OmniOS (since 2014):

Hi Özkan,
The first thing that comes to mind is "no_root_squash" and, based on
your example setting with options like "anon=root", I assume this option
can be set as well on OmniOS with the "sharenfs" setting.
Maybe these will help:
advantages and disadvantages IMHO.

Hi guys,
Trying to update a r151022 (test)system with a number of lipkg and lx
zones to the latest r151022al version, using "pkg update -nv", but it
fails with:
Planning linked: 1/7 done; 1 working: zone:
Linked progress: -pkg: update failed (linked image exception(s)):
A '*sync-linked*'
port helps you guys in testing and debugging, then great! For
me personally it's not a real necessity to get the hot-fix in place
ASAP; I could just wait for the final fix.
Thanks,

Playing around with r151022, I may have bumped into the same issue here.
The ACE's that I set on the parent directory are nicely inherited, but
on top of that, another ACE for owner@, group@ and everyone@ is added.
Another weird thing I noticed is that these unwanted ACE's are *only*

Whoops!
I didn't care to verify the publishers, as I was convinced I hadn't
changed them.
Turns out I added a local mirror of the "omnios" publisher to some
zones, but that mirror does not contain the r151022 packages yet - only
r151014. My bad.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Modifying the rsync options (see file names) doesn't actually really
matter: the inheritance is broken.
Any thoughts are appreciated! Tnx.

Hi Andy,
According to for example this thread, and the links provided there, Illumos
supports SMB2 for about three years now:

Isn't it therefore implemented in OmniOS
Hi Stephan,
Regarding your first question, not that I'm using Samba on OmniOSce
myself, but did you give 'pkgsrc'
(https://pkgsrc.joyent.com/install-on-illumos/) a try?
If I hit it with this command ...:
pkgin search samba
... it comes up with two mathing "SMB/CIFS protocol server
Hi Gyu,
Maybe not a direct answer to your question, but might it be an option to
use BIND from the 'pkgsrc' repository?
http://pkgsrc.joyent.com/install-on-illumos/
To me that repo seems quite future-proof for packages to be used in
non-lx zones.
