Re: Eclipse photography

2017-07-14 Thread james
What i have done in the past is to use 2 polarizing filters and cross
polarize them. 1st one (closest to sun) must be a non circular type.

Done it this way as i am cheap and is all that i have.
Also good results can be had with a welding glass. How you mount it
however is entirely up to you.

Wine improves the soul.

Mustard improves the wine.

Therefore, mustard improves the soul.

Yes, I prefer the initial one - the one you sent me as a jpg in email I
found to be too light and not as dramatic

I see that when I click on the photo that is against the blue background
I get the photo alone on a black background...
I didn't see the halos until you mentioned them in your off list note.
I like this image as it is better than your redo that you sent in email...
Just my personal preference regarding bw tones...

The artist and photographer I couldn't think of suddenly came to mind -
Charles Sheeler..

Re: Edward S. Curtis Exhibit

2017-07-14 Thread Mark C
I was wondering because the old ferry took several hours to cross the
lake - but the new express ferry does it in 2.5 hours. It probably works
out to longer considering time to load the cars etc.

Muskegon is about 4 hours form Chicago and 3 hours from Detroit, doable
as a day trip or overnight.

Remind me never to take a long ferry ride on your advice!

I went to Muskegon Michigan today to see an exhibit of Edwin S Curtis's North
American Indian prints. It was an excellent and massive exhibit, well worth a
visit. I doubt that many PDMLer's are nearby, but in case anyone is passing
that way...

All 723 of Curtis' prints were on display - the full set. The museum believes
this is the first time the entire set has been displayed. I wondered how a
fairly small museum got this exhibit and where it would go next. As it turns
out the Muskegon public library was one of the 200+ subscribers to the original
project and received the books and photogravure prints as they were published.
A docent told me that at this time there were no plans to travel the show.

My only complaint - 723 prints plus supplemental displays is a bit overwhelming
- I plan another visit or two over the summer.

Here are a few cell phone snaps of some of the exhibits:
