IIRC, it made the trip in a little over three hours. It would be doable flying east to west, with the time zones working for you. I think NYC is 5-6 hours behind Paris. Going the other direction, it's already lunch time in Paris before you even finish breakfast in NYC. On 6/26/2016 10:08 PM, P.J. That's where I'm at. Pelican plus TSA locks. The case won't pop open. And insurance is a must. Re: OT - American Airlines Drops Photographer's $20,000 Camera Kit
A very good reason to use a strap around the case, just in case. Reminds me of my experience a few days after 9/11 - I was in the Badlands for a week long photo shoot. On the day of my scheduled departure from Rapid City, the airline could not assure me that my 600mm would ride in the overhead, as it had done on my trip out. There was no way the 600 was going below! I rented a car and drove back to Detroit with it and my peace of mind. It was one of the fastest traverses I've ever experienced most of the traffic - it was relatively light - was running in the 85 to 100mph range. In Philly 80% of the flights are AA. The other airlines are no better anyway. Rick On Sunday, June 26, 2016, P.J. Allingwrote: > Only 20K worth of gear? I have two rules: 1) Pelican case, plus (TSA - approved) padlocks. 2) My own insurance. The so-called "pro" photographer in the story above got half of the first one right; at least he had a Pelican case. But that's it. If this had been my case it wouldn't have popped open. And even if it had I wouldn't be fighting the airline over a claim; my insurance company would have paid me (full replacement cost, less $500 deductible), and they'd be fighting the airline to get it to reimburse them. If they won, then it deductible would be repaid. This could well take six months or more (as it just did with a claim when somebody backed out of a parking bay in a supermarket lot right into my car, then tried to claim this was somehow my fault), but I wasn't waiting for ages to get the repairs/replacement done. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List PDML@pdml.net http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
