I prefer liquids because you can mix single shots. Right now I use Rodinal a
lot for Delta 100, HP5, and FP4 (all 4x5, 8x10, 7x10 so I don't mind the
grain). I had been using HC-110 for some time previously. To me, the
shortcoming of dry chems is that you have to mix entire batches. I don't
have a
Count me in on a 2004 swap; but this is really a sign-up sheet?

Mike, what film are you using? I'm using Kodak CGP/2588 myself. The
recommendation is for a #1A. However, I also am getting away
with using the Delta 1 Bright Lab Jr. It's a red bulb you can pick up in the
darkroom dept of a camera store. I work at least four feet from it, and
don't seem to get
Becky, I use a #29 red all the time with Delta 100. It's more convenient to
apply it to the front, but I have attached mine to the back, and it's fine.
Probably better, actually, since your depth of field is great enough that a
filter that's 1/2000th of an inch ahead of the pinhole is going to be
I need to use - want to, I guess it's a luxury - want to use a red
safelight so I can cut down 18x23 sheets of Kodak CPG film. Kodak's fact
sheet recommends a #1A filter. However, I'm not having any success in
scrounging up this beast here in Phoenix. Plus even Calumet actually is sold
out. All
Andrew, I'm with Andy on this one. Just give it a try. You bet you'll get
falloff. When I shoot 4x5 using 50mm of focal length, the fall-off is a good
2-3 stops from center to corner. Not only that, but with a focal length that
barely covers the film (or even doesn't), you can get very interesting
if shooting certain filmstocks. think about it, worked
great for me!

A short while ago (mid-January?) I posted a few questions soliciting
information so I could build my 7x17. I am very grateful for feedback I got,
because it helped me push this project along at a satisfactory pace. Andy
Schmitt expressed curiosity about it back then, so I thought that I would

Indirectly, there is some truth to the argument that larger formats have
better resolution -- but this is only the case because we usually end up
enlarging the larger format less. So a 35mm image enlarged to 8x10 will
suffer degraded resolution when compared w/ an 8x10 contact printed from

FIVE ROLLS of 8x 150'? I can picture it: I imagine half a case of Home
Depot toilet paper. You know what would be really cool, would be to rig up a
take-up spool so you could haul an entire roll into the field. It would look
like a giant cassette of 110 film, with the camera situated between the
A ready made factory product is an alternative process? What are you
referring to specifically, Steve, jello? Thomas Kinkade? And you are right.
Silver nitrate technically is no alternative. In the strictly historical
sense of the word, it is a PRE factory process.

all depends on the brightness of the image at the edges of the range. If you
stick within 3fl you'll never notice any vignetting.

I am building a 7x17 camera, which I intend to use w/ a pinhole. This will
be a wooden folding camera, so it will have a fixed focal length. Therefore
I need to be sure I arrive at a good camera length from the start. I
wonder whether Guillermo and/or others could review my logic below, and
Hello, everyone! I am poised to start mailing off my contribution to the
2003 pinhole swap. I plan to send mine to all participants. Currently the
list numbers 32. It looks to me like there have been no new additions to the
list in about 7-10 days. So I am going to take one last look tomorrow AM,
Ed, you might try the MACO 820IR film. It's sensitive to higher nanometers
than
the other spiked red films. It also comes in 120 and 4x5. I recently shot
some in my Fuji 6x9, using an 87 IR filter. Long exposures, but very nice.
And the film is pretty fine-grained in Rodinal. I haven't yet used
I bought the 12-lens set from Pinhole Resourses, and I've been using the
.0102/.259mm pinhole on my 4x5. This one's claimed optimal focal length is
supposed to be 48mm. I am using it with a recessed lensboard to a length of
about 50mm. That's the closest I can get even w/ a bag bellows.
The
Chris, excellent point. But thanks a lot, now you've got me taking issue
with Travis. Guillermo is geek alright, but he is NO Whatever geek. From
what I've seen, he definitely is an Everyever geek. And when it comes to
reciprocity, that beats your run-of-the-mill KnowNothing geek (my category)
Is this code for something? Does everybody else in alternative processes
already know what this means? Am I just out of loops?

Pinhole: one of the most interesting bits of useless information I have

If so, I do hope they remember to give Dr. Samuelson his due credit.
