Tony, Scrub that, format ROM1_ has worked. The original format only took a second and caused the problems. This time it took a while ( hadn't crashed the Aurora) and appears to be ok now. sadly, that backup of ROM1_ i spoke about was to RAM1_ :-( , so it'll take me a while to get it back

I've been happiliy using a system with several physical discs, one of them a 120 GB disk, under win98se. IIRC, I formatted the big disc with something like partition magic in fat 32. I never had any problems with it (there is only one large parition on it). It is just a data disc (the system
