RE: Re: {S-Scale List} Re: Journal Bearing Castings?
Andre, Im not sure if in stock, but S scale Loco Supply lists non functional plain bearing journals in brass, part, number 68-1, for $1.50 ea. I think from the drawing in the old catalog, that these would be what you want. I think these were designed for steam loco trailing truck use so should be the larger journal size that would look good on a diesel sideframe. RE: {S-Scale List} Re: Journal Bearing Castings?
I am unclear what it is Andre is really asking about: just the bearings for the journals (which would hardly be castings, the journals might me, or even the sideframes) or perhaps replacements for the incorrect sideframes themselves, AM having used their AAR type B road truck for the S-12 rather than the correct type B switcher sideframe. Without getting out reference materials, I cannot recall whether the wheelbase/axle spacing is the same for switchers and road trucks; if so , then Locomotive Workshop offered a white-metal switcher sideframe for their diesel kits (one turned up with a Cascade drive for my second Miller Alco, making it an S-4).If not, then there would be a headache. replacing the sideframes with stretched ones. Re: {S-Scale List} Re: Journal Bearing Castings?
Hi Jace: You have a reason for being unclear: I didn't express myself very clearly. Actually, I was hoping for a casting of the journal box w/cover to replace the roller bearing detail on the American Models Baldwin switcher sideframes. This would merely be a cosmetic modification and not functional. I referenced an SHS switcher as a means to illustrate the journal box w/cover that I hoped to find. Does this help to better explain what I was looking for? And you are also correct in that any replacement side frames would have to be a bit longer in wheelbase than a prototype switcher truck (such as SHS used). Not noticably so, but a bit longer. Sure wish AM hadn't pitched us this truck curve on their nifty little Baldwin switcher... but it is certainly better than NO MODEL AT ALL.
