Hm. I uninstalled Pidgin and Banshee. It is still not stable, but it is
far better than before. I only had two segfaults since I stopped using
Pidgin and Banshee.
But a few times, alt+tab did not work any more and it didn't react to
mouse. Keyboard still worked in parts, for example alt+f4 and
both blockers have been fixed and sphinx was uploaded to unstable
given we sync numpy and venv, nothing should block updating sphinx anymore.

boot-repair told be that this was not an issue with grub but rather

To add to this, I saw this issue in VMWare Fusion. Most windows were
not drawing properly. It seemed to me that Ubuntu was attempting to
load Unity 3D on non-accelerated HW. Explicitly choosing Ubuntu 2D at
login fixed the issue.
