The important ones could be cherry-picked as quilt patches, or even
all applied via a quilt patch (the pythonX.Y
Looking at the xen code used for the ec2 guest kernels, this is not overloading
the generic spinlock struct with xen data. So at least that cannot overflow.

Testing 12.04 Desktop 64-bit. Added ppa:unity-team/hud and later added
ppa:unity-team/ppa. Updated. Did apt-get -y dist-upgrade. Rebooted.
Upon login, got a popup informing me that apt-add-repository had
crashed.
