[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 479839] [NEW] Synaptics Touchpad on Dell Inspiron 2650 not always working after restart
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics After upgrading from Ubuntu 9.04, touchpad on my Dell Inspiron 2650 didn't work sometimes. I mean, that sometimes after restart it works ok, but after other restart it doesn't work at all. USB mouse works ok everytime. I made also a clean install of Ubuntu 9.10 and the effect is the same. It's annoying regression from Ubuntu 9.04. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 479878] [NEW] (Karmic) Need an option to disable touchpad completely
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics In Jaunty, I could disable the touchpad completely, however this functionality has been removed in Karmic. Allow me to explain why this important: In the normal course of typing, one tends to stop for a few seconds with the palms, still on the keyboard. At this time, there are very high chances of you triggering the touchpad. The same problem appears in gaming on laptops, where one can inadvertently trigger the touchpad (while one is not typing anything) Disable while typing is good - but we need a disable completely key as well. Maybe when the mouse is removed, the touchpad is re-activated or something. In any case alt-f2 and gnome-mouse-config can be used to reactivate your touchpad. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- (Karmic) Need an option to disable touchpad completely https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/479878 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 478685] Re: broken compiz / graphics stack / ati drivers
I think this is a duplicate of (parts 1 and 3 of) bug 421842 - your notifications look just like the ones reported there, in Gnome and KDE. What does System Monitor look like with effects off? Here's an example: http://launchpadlibrarian.net/31041978/Screenshot-System%20Monitor- tartan2.png Quote screen corruption with the system monitor, compiz, and notifications but also with Gnometris. Don't those applications all use Cairo or is it coincidental? I found these problems are not present with xf86-video-ati-6.12.4, but are in the HEAD version of xf86. Someone else found a workaround (at the expense of performance) in xorg.conf: Option AccelMethod EXA -- [M6] broken compiz / graphics stack / ati drivers (128MB) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/478685 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 479948] [NEW] Unable to select 3rd level characters using Alt gr (Karmic)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg Alt gr doesn't work when trying to choose 3rd level characters using my HP pavillion laptop (swedish layout). Running Ubuntu 9.10 amd64. When pressing Alt gr + 2 for making an @ nothing happens. The blinking courser just disappears. I have experienced the same problem before using Jaunty (32 bit). Luckily then, when I couldn't figure it out the problem went away by itself after a few days. Strange thing is that the only time it seems to work is when writing inside the application Gnome-Do. Because of different architecture? It does not work inside terminal in contrary to related bugs. I have tried the fix suggested in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xkeyboard-config/+bug/410876 , but without any results. -- When using xev from terminal I get this result when pressing Alt gr (also get the same results when I press left alt-key). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 459322] Re: gnome-display-properties/xrandr crashes X server when loading after pluging an external display
Reproduced on EEEPC 1000H (same GPU) gnome-display-properties - crash You can even crash it by just typing xrandr in a console after plugging in an external screen. Screens get black and the mouse pointer is visible but stucked. Tried with a shorter VGA-cable: gnome-display-properties: X-Server does not crash at all, both screens get black, it chooses a side by side desktop view (also i didnt tell him), i can move mouse from the left to the right, no desktop elements accessible, but on the left corner I can see a 2-3 pixel wide stripe of my desktop but I cannot access anything, after that I can recover with my self-configured hotkey: xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output VGA1 --off Then I find the propperties and can configure it correctly either by th GUI or by another xrandr call typing xrandr after reboot, plugging in results also in those two black screens After having the screen succesfully set up once, I can reconnect it as often as I like My questiones: -why does my system change the screen setup without me asking it to do so -why does my system crash if the VGA-Cable is too long (and it maybe cannot read monitor settings propperly?) I hope to have given some hints... 9.04 just worked perfectly ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed -- gnome-display-properties/xrandr crashes X server when loading after pluging an external display https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459322 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I am having this issue with up-to-date post-release fresh install of karmic i386 32bit with intel 945gm. It is very annoying to have to restart simply to use dual head. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 419328] Re: [i945gme] attaching external monitor: laptop display is black, external monitor too, with frozen mouse coursor
Reproduced on EEEPC 1000H (same GPU) gnome-display-properties - crash You can even crash it by just typing xrandr in a console after plugging in an external screen. Screens get black and the mouse pointer is visible but stucked. Tried with a shorter VGA-cable: gnome-display-properties: X-Server does not crash, both screens get black, it chooses a side by side desktop view (also i didnt tell him), i can move mouse from the left to the right, no desktop elements accessible, but on the left corner I can see a 2-3 pixel wide stripe of my desktop but I cannot access anything, after that I can recover with my self-configured hotkey: xrandr --output LVDS1 --auto --output VGA1 --off Then I find the propperties and can configure it correctly either by th GUI or by another xrandr call typing xrandr after reboot, plugging in results also in those two black screens After having the screen succesfully set up once, I can reconnect it as often as I like My questiones: -why does my system change the screen setup without me asking it to do so -why does my system crash if the VGA-Cable is too long (and it maybe cannot read monitor settings propperly?) I hope to have given some hints... 9.04 just worked perfectly -- [i945gme] attaching external monitor: laptop display is black, external monitor too, with frozen mouse coursor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419328 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xf86-video-intel. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 137766] [NEW] Linguistic representation for Indian Languages Regional Language - System Settings
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Briefly: India is a country with 18 officially recognized languages each being spoken by millions of people. Each language of it need unique representation in Keyboard Layout of Regional Language - System Settings Steps to notice the problem: 1) Kubuntu Feisty (Upgrade from Kubuntu Edgy) 2) KMenu -- System Settings -- Regional Language -- Keyboard Layout 3) Under Available Layouts -- India Now the problem is one cannot add the Indian Languages separately. Few Indian Languages are Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada each being millions of people. The only option available is choose India Add to Active Layouts Choose the Layout variant. Want to add another language, again choose India Add to Active Layouts Choose the Layout variant. Now in the Layout variant field all languages of India are messed up and a beginner will get confused easily as to choose which layout for his home language. Now linguistic representation need to be given here. This need to be and I myself is willing to take up the responsibility. While DKMS is definitely not the cause of the problem here, driver -180 relies on a template which dkms provides in /usr/lib/dkms/common.postinst. Driver -173 and -96 should do the same (i.e. source it from the postinst) so as to minimise efforts here by avoiding code duplication. -- nvidia drivers 185.xx compile into kernel 2.6.28 instead of 2.6.31 on update from jaunty to karmic https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/474917 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 70064] Re: Acer TravelMate 290: Fn + F5 (CRT/LCD) cause crash-down
Hi Bryce, I have since upgraded to Hardy 8.04 LTS and the behaviour of the keys Fn + F5 (CRT/LCD) is quite different now: 1) There is no crash anymore. 2) When pressing once, the external screen is swichted on in addition to the laptop screen, but has some flickering noise. 3) When pressing a second time, the laptop screen is swichted off, and the external screen works perfectly. 4) After that I cannot switch on the laptop screen anymore. I tried by repeatedly pressing Fn + F5 (CRT/LCD), and by using the command sudo i810switch lcd on, but I cannot switch on the graphic display anymore without restarting the computer. Another issue (maybe unrelated) is the following: In mirror screen mode I use the command sudo i855crt on 1024x...@60 which removes the flickering, BUT (and this completely puzzles me) on the external display a small (~1%) either white or black square appears in the top left corner that cannot be removed. I can try to provide more information, if you tell me what could be of interest. Please also inform me, if this should be filed elsewhere... -- Acer TravelMate 290: Fn + F5 (CRT/LCD) cause crash-down https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/70064 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Also will I need to use that BusType option or not? -- [RC410] detects AGP on a PCIE card https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/475466 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is the registrant for xserver-xorg-driver-ati. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
