Suggestion
Virtualize windows and solve your problem :)

NO I cannot do that. Wish I could.

If/When I need it to go to a warranty repair service, I have to give
them a Windows password so these people can test it out before and after
they do the work. If there is only Ubuntu installed, then they will
tell me it is Linux that is part of the trouble.

Same with Internet access companies - it is your router that the problem
so you MUST use ours at $10 a month, even if their wifi range does not
cover all of your apartment/house, let alone 10 floors down to the
green-space under my window.

I gave the repair people the Win10 and Ubuntu passwords, but it came
back with a lot of Windows changes - including the splash and background
images messed with. At least most of the data and Win10 packages
remained the same.

Right now, if the hard drive is big enough, I give Windows 10 between a
third to a forth of the total drive. The rest goes to Ubuntu. Right
now on the ASUS laptop I gave Win10 about 200 GB of space and then gave
the rest to Ubuntu. 40 GB partition for the "/" root folders and a few
GB for the swap partition. The rest goes for the "/home" partition.
Hopefully, this will allow me to keep my data when I have to install
Ubuntu from scratch again.

The laptop I am typing from has only 500 GB so I split it in two. I
need enough space to run some space hungry packages and its data that
only works on Windows. It does not work correctly installed on a
Virtual Windows "box" or via WINE. Most of this stuff is the Corel
PaintShop package and the printing of labels directly onto CD. or DVD,
media.

I decided, for now, not to install these packages onto the ASUS Windows
partition till I fix all the issues. I do not want to waste time and
"hair" dealing with repeat installations of the Win10 partition and its
software.

Windows seem not to care if the letter is an uppercase or a lowercase
one, they are the same thing. Linux treats the letters as different
ones since their ASCII number are different.

I am wondering if there is some setting that creates these directories
that way. I use Caja for my default folder viewing and creation
package. I use the MATE terminal package instead of Konsole.

Since I do not use KDE, except if they have a package I install that is
better than MATE, so it may be some type of compatibility setting.

[libreoffice-users] Portrait printing problems redux - printer tray sensor issue?

2017-08-18 Thread Marc Grober
While I have not had this problem up until today, I understand that this
problem has cropped up from time to time and no one has yet resolved the
source.

I have OSX 10.11.6 and just recently updated to LO 5.4.0.3 - print at
issue is an HP Deskjet 8500 A910

Suddenly LO documents show up correctly in preview, but only appear in
landscape in print dialog, and only print in landscape. All other
applications appear to work fine.

However, sometimes the document will appear correctly and will print
correctly, but continued use of LO will then result in reversion to the
landscape mode. There is nothing I can determine that causes the
reversion to proper behavior. Deleting and reinstalling the printer does
not seem to help.

I tested changing the format to A4 and that seems to put things right,
so I tested setting the dialog at letter but reducing the page width
from 8.5 to 8.49, and that correct the problem as well...

Is this likely some kind of page tray sensor issue?

As others have noted, the hack of setting the page width to 8.49 or to 8.51
seems to work fine, but what is causing the problem, and what is an
effective solution to whatever is causing the underlying problem?

I think you just need not a cross-reference but a hyperlink. You will
see that a hyperlink can be to a different part of the same document
or another document, not just to a web address. You can link to
tables, frames, graphics, OLE objects, sections, headings, or bookmarks.

I trust this helps.

[libreoffice-users] Saving error

2017-08-18 Thread Stephen Harding
Since upgrading to LO 5.4.0.3 I have been getting the following error
message when I try to save a document. I've tried uninstalling and
reinstalling LO but still get the same result. It doesn't happen all the
time or with all documents. The only way I have found of getting round the
problem is to use the "Save All" function. The current Writer and Draw
documents I'm working on are derived from templates created 18 months ago on
whatever LO version was current at the time. Operating system is Windows 10

Is anyone else experiencing this problem or have any suggestions as to how I
can get round it?

[libreoffice-users] Page Numbers in TOC

Yes, that's right. I actually want the roman number 'iii' to appear in
the automatic TOC as it does on the page being referenced. Now the strange
thing is that if I insert a bookmark on that page and put the bookmark
reference in a manual TOC, it gets the roman number bit right. So why
can't the automatic TOC?

I set page number format when creating or editing page style. In tab
Page (right click on page style and choose modify) set roman numerals in

Just insert TOC.

Maybe your page styles are not designed right?

I'm using 5.3.3 on GNU/Linux. Maybe is that particular document. What do

First make custom numbering style and set numbers to be lower numerals.

Make new paragraph style that you will use on pages where you have roman
numerals as page numbers. You can base that custom style on the style
you're currently using.

When making new paragraph style, in tab Outline and numbering choose
numbering style you've made from a drop down in field Numbering style.

Use that paragraph style on pages with roman numerals.

When inserting table of contents, check Additional styles from a dialog
window. Click Add styles. Move your custom style to level one. Click OK.

-

If you set everything as said here - you'll get desired results. Just
remember, your newly created style will just look like Heading 1, but
will actually be at text body level. That's a trade-off. If you set
custom style to level one in Tools → Outline and numbering, you won't be
able to use Heading 1.

It's not that complicated, just need to understand how the whole system
work.

There's more to it, more could be done, but this should suffice. More
explaining equals more complexity and more chance to get/do something wrong.

Where abouts is this in the menus/tabs? I'm running LO 5.1.6.2 on Linux
Mint - Sarah.

F11 gets up the style table. Select page styles, then right click the
roman number page style and select 'Modify'. I can't see anything on
the tabs to set the page number style. Is it Organiser/Page/Area/
Transparency/Header/Footer/Borders/Columns/Footnote? I actually set
the page number format to lower-case roman when I put the page number
field in the footer with Insert->Field->More Fields and chose the
format I wanted.
