This is not a bug; apparently you didn't read Java and OpenOffice

Is /View /Status Bar selected? If not, select it. Now what is % shown in
bottom right of OpenOffice window? If not 100%, bull the slider on left of
that little box to the right until you get about 100%. Also click on the
leftmost of the three little icons just to left of that slider, a single page
icon.

Re: Bug report openoffice 4.1.10 Mac

2021-10-01 Thread Joost Andrae

Hi,

transparency is not part of the cell formatting options but of the
graphics object formatting options.

I suspect you're using a Mac OS system:

Regarding crashes when using transperency it might be possible that it
is a problem of the Quartz graphics system of Mac OS. The graphics
system Quartz is based upon PDF. Quartz AFAIK doesn't support transparency.

You could try out the printing output options in /tools/options/printing
to reduce or disable transparency to avoid this crash.

Kind regards, Joost

RE: BUG FIX

2021-08-31 Thread S H
To tell you the truth, I don’t know what really happened. I only described the
steps I went through until the problem was resolved.

I figured if this question came up, perhaps even an antiquated solution would
still be useful.

I am not even sure that “read only” check box was the culprit since I never set
that myself either, I only clicked it off since it was on the full filled box
that indicates mixed properties within the folder.

Thank you for the reply, I tend to not get those.

Not sure at all that that is a bug.

If you are saving your My Documents - OO didnt
set those permissions.

Why did not install so many times? If it was because
you couldnt write to a real only folder, that was not because
of the program.

Ewald,

this is not a bug, it is designed that way.
Probably if you had MS Office installed after OpenOffice it would most probably
be exactly the other way round. (Opening .odt files with MS Word.)

Have a look at this page
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74=12918 (scroll all
the way down} to see a simple way to change the default app on Windows 10 (
From OO to MS or the other way round.)
You cab specify there exactly which file you want to open with what application

Hi Ewald,

select a docx document in WindowsExplorer (single click in the document
name) and select "Open With..." (öffnen mit...) via context menue (right
mouse button click) and select MS Word to open this document with it.
Wihin this dialog there is a checkbox where you can select to always
open documents with this file extention with whatever application you
select.

When you installed OpenOffice within the setup program you selected to
open MS Office documents wit OpenOffice

Hello,

I searched in your FAQ for my problem but could not found a solution.

The problem:

I have installed OpenOffice together with Microsoft Office 2019 both with
newest versions. I’m working with Windows 10 Home 64-Bit newest Version.

If I use Windows menus in order to call a new Word document, I cannot find
Microsoft Word:

I searched for the reason and finally found the reason: installing
OpenOffice a registry entry reserved for .docx will be changed by OpenOffice
to “OpenOffice.docx”:

Normally (if no OpenOffice installed) this entry contains “Word.Document.12”
as I can see in my notebook with Windows 10 Home 64-Bit and Microsoft Office
2010).

What to do for a solution?

Thanks for your help and sincerely

I am informed that the problem was an oversized paragraph, containing Shift
Enter markers rather than Enter.

I regularly handle documents in OpenOffice of a million words and several
thousand pages, so size is not a problem.

OpenOffice cannot handle paragraphs of longer than 64K characters; this amounts
to about 15 US Letter/A4 pages. If one marks paragraph by pressing Enter at
the end of each paragraph that situation does not arise, but if one, as a habit
from older word processors, marks paragraphs by Ctrl Enter, then one can
quickly reach such a limit. Turning on /View /Non printing characters (a
toggle command) will show paragraphs terminated by a backwards P character
(recte: a Pilcrow); if Ctrl Enter has been used, the paragraph marker will be a
left pointing hooked arrow.

The fix is simple: on a _COPY_ of your file (in case of disaster), open Find
and Replace. In Find box enter \n, in Replace box enter \n (different meanings
in each box). Drop More options and select "Regular expressions". Press
Replace all. That should fix the problem, and to prevent it happening in
future, only mark paragraphs by pressing Enter.

If that doesn't fix your file, you have the unaltered original to return to.

You give us very little information to answer your question. We will
need the following information to try to help you.
1) what version of macOS are you using
2) What version of Apache OpenOffice® are you using both before and

It sounds like a memory problem to me. It might be that you do not have
enough available free RAM to write any larger than 150,000 words. Under
Tools > Options > OpenOffice.org some where you can increase the amount
of RAM that is reserved for OOo to use. This also may be the problem.

You have written this email to a mailing list which means that everyone

want to make needs to also to be addressed to this mailing list. Others

Page size is a property of page styles. Do you have more than one
page style in use in your document? If so, you will need to change
the page size in each of the page styles.

And when I bring up Format>Page and reset each page to the correct
dimensions, nothing changes.

You cannot affect "each page", only each page style. You can see this
as the dialogue brought up by Format | Page... is headed "Page Style:
(whatever)". So you don't need to do this for each page, only for as
many page styles as you are using. If you change things at Format |
Page..., this will affect all pages in the document which have the
same page style as the page currently containing the cursor. Did you
perhaps scroll down to display each page but without moving the cursor to it?

I trust this helps.

Try selecting all, copy and then creating a new 6*9 and then pasting.

Pictures and most other files usually don't get through when sending email
to this list, so we can't see them. You can either upload it somewhere and
give us a link or just give us the necessary information here:
What does the formula look like?
What are the values in all cells referred to in the formula?
What value do you expect from the formula?
What value did you actually get from the formula?

We are only users like you (I'm actually not even that these days, but I
still hang out here), so you are our customer just as much as we are your

Oh, and I hope you didn't buy this product, since it's free (in more than
one way) if you download it from

If you actually paid for it, you might have paid for some kind of support.
If that's the case, maybe you should ask your question to whom you paid.

Greetings,

I am not a windows user, but I did read that Microsoft has a problem

Note that lately there have been a lot of complaints about OpenOffice

hello.
in openoffice tools menu and options, find load-save and then general
and Save AutoRecovery information every: which is checked by default.
you can reduce the time from 15 minutes to less minutes, (maybe 10 or
even 5 minutes) to prevent loss of data.
you can even activate Always create backup copy by space key and okay
to save your settings.
hope that help, God bless you!

As soon as possible do the following:

Download Recuva or PhotoRec (only one needed) and let it do an indepth recovery
of deleted files on your computer. You may get a file containing some or all of
your data (or not). Do this as a first priority; other use of the computer may
overwrite any existing but deleted files and prevent their recovery. There is
no guarantee that you will recover anything useful.

Do the above soonest! Do not wait for anything else - so do this NOW!

I suspect the original (non-subscribed) poster is not an experience user
and was attempting to number pages in a document based on the "Default"
page style. If my suspicion is correct (ie. Default page style), then
Rory's suggestion would not automatically align header page numbering in
the way you suggest.

As a generalization, that's correct, but to achieve this in Writer it is
appropriate to use left & right page styles and set the header alignment
for each style

I've just tested - select Page Tab, Mirrored and Header tab Uncheck "Same
content left and right". Place page number field to right on the first odd
page header (use two tabs to position it) and on the left on the headeer of the
even pages.
Turn on /View /Non printing characters to help with the header character
positioning.

Hi Elaine,

Tested your steps on a Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64bit machine, with AOO
4.1.1 and cannot reproduce your issue. (See capture below)

As Denis has already pointed out, you must select either a range of
cells, or click on a row number to make the "Merge" option accessible.

If this does not resolve your issue, resetting your "user profile" might
be a solution:
https://forum.openoffice.org/en/forum/viewtopic.php?f=74=12426
However, this is more a measure of last resort to use when other options
have not succeeded.

Hope this helps.

Hey Brock,

In the process of troubleshooting problems I have with AOO v4.10 and 4.10, I
have done many installs and uninstalls of both programs over the last week
or so. I noticed that folder also and just deleted it. It made no difference
to the operation of the program.

Something that I find peculiar is that even after uninstalling either
version that folder remains. That is when I decided to delete it the first
time, and then just deleted it after an install.

Hab ich doch; aber bitte nochmal:

Zwar ist Deine bisherige Beschreibung nicht unverständlich, nur können solche

Keine; ich habe wirklich genau die Vorgehensweise beschrieben, von
Calc-Starten bis Calc-Beenden. Es gibt sonst keine Nebenbedingungen;

Indeed, why is it mandatory to have an account to view the bug list?
 This is not user-friendly.

 Can the policy be changed?
