That's quite strange. Since you've even used 3.3.7, that seems to be
something else. But have you compare the VNC configs between them? Are they

And of course an obvious question: is there any port filter on the
cisco router? Or in other words, is at least the port 5900 is

At work, behind my employers firewall, I run the vnc server
(on windows 2000) on the standard 5900 port. I then use
a ssh client to connect to my linux

Yeah. Actually, since they've got VNC probably from the official site, I
don't know why they didn't see there's a FAQ section there? There're just a few

If you are using WinVNC, then you need to set the LoopbackOnly option.
I have run into this before. Here's a excerpt from the documentation
http://realvnc.com/winvnc.html that explains it:

I have OSXvnc 1.32 running on my imac with osx 10.2.8

Many apologies in advance if this is too basic, but I have not been able to solve my
problem by studying the archives and recent postings.
I have 3 PCs (PC1, PC2, PC3) networked on a LAN behind a Linksys BEFSR41 router, which
acts as the DHCP server, and all are running ZoneAlarm basic (the

I should have read the documentation more carefully,
when I posted my question I thought the (linux)vncviewer
client blocked the connection, now I understand (hope) that
the vncserver at work blocked the connection, because it thought
the connection was coming from localhost...

Hello everyone.
I am new to VNC and figured it all out fairly quickly.
I just need someone to help me understand the
Security part of it. I have setup an ssh server with
cygwin and it seems to all be working. But HOW CAN I
TELL? I need to be sure it is secure.
