Thanks for all the help, people. Unfortunately none of the examples given solve the basic problem, which is that with anything other than tables, I cannot get multiple boxes across the screen that have the same height on every row, without specifying a fixed height. Mike's example

Off topic really, insofar as it doesn't directly solve your problem...but your post actually made me think the other way around, if you will...how to display a table, containing tabular data, in a more sexy way. A first attempt, still riddled with bugs, can be seen here
