This is somewhat off topic, but as I recall someone posted a patch to
use the linux event input interface to support hotplugging in xfree86.
it may be of use with what you are looking at now...or not.

Recently I turned to this forum for two
problems:
One was an uncontrollable mouse, which was
fixed through config file corrections shown
to me by one of you (Svein Erik).
The second was an unresponsive mouse. While
I am still tracking down the whole story, I
have found that killing
your log looks fine. the only thing I see is that direct rendering is
disable because AGP is not available. you probably need to make sure
the apggart kernel module is loaded. I load the agpgart.o and radeon.o
kernel modules in my rc.local script.
in regards to the weird behavior, you might
3D is supported on radeon 9100 cards. Tv out is not yet supported by
xfree86. you might check with the gatos project (http://gatos.sf.net).
