Re: repeated X restarts with i810 not freeing sys resources?
I am still seeing the same behavior. I presume you rebooted after installing the new module, or explicitly unloaded the old one? I guess I'll need to try this same kernel. David yes. i rebooted. btw. had to make a very small mod to your agpgart_be.c source with this kernel. PCI_DEVICE_ID_INTEL_865_GM_0 isn't defined agp.h and isn't provided by /lib/modules/2.4.20-2.21/build/include/linux/pci_ids.h (or wherever it would show up in the kernel headers?). thanks, -pat ___ Devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/devel
Re: repeated X restarts with i810 not freeing sys resources?
On Fri, Feb 14, 2003 at 11:27:16PM -0500, David Dawes wrote: To simplify my environment, I did a fresh install of Red Hat 8.0. I then installed kernel 2.4.20-2.21 and XFree86-4.2.99.3-20030115, taken as RPM's from the RH81 'phoebe' beta, required for the i845 support. So, I now have a 'clean' setup which doesn't contain any of the pieces which I previously downloaded/built from various cvs repositories. On this machine (which has quite a few services running since it is a default 8.0 workstation-type install), it only takes 6 restart iterations of X before the system hangs. I (unfortunately) have 4 of these brand new GX60 machines. I see the exact same behavior on all of them. Therefore, I don't think the problem is specific to a particular system. By using the RH RPM's, also doesn't appear that the problem stems from something peculiar in my build environment. You tried on an i845G and can't reproduce, but you are using RH7.3? Yep, RH7.3 with its default kernel plus the agpgart driver referenced above. Could you try your setup using that agpgart driver? That might help narrow down if the problem lies there or elsewhere. I don't see how the problem could be anywhere other than the kernel or agpgart driver. David i replaced agpgart.o with one recompiled from agpgart-85x.tar.gz % uname -a Linux localhost.localdomain 2.4.20-2.21 #1 Wed Jan 15 20:31:35 EST 2003 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux % ls -l /lib/modules/2.4.20-2.21/kernel/drivers/char/agp -rw-r--r--1 root root64920 Feb 14 12:21 agpgart.o -rw-r--r--1 root root23738 Jan 15 18:38 agpgart.o.gz.bak I am still seeing the same behavior. I presume you rebooted after installing the new module, or explicitly unloaded the old one? I guess I'll need to try this same kernel. I downloaded the 2.4.20-2.21 kernel source rpm from RH's phoebe beta. I can get the kernel to build, but not modules. So, I built the agpgart driver into the kernel and tested it that way. I can reproduce what you're seeing with this kernel. I also tried the stock 2.4.20 kernel from ftp.kernel.org, and it works fine, and doesn't show the problem you're seeing. So, it looks like some difference between RH's kernel and the stock kernel. You'll have to follow that up further with Red Hat (or use a kernel from ftp.kernel.org). Organization of data for XImages
Hi. I haven't been able to find a specification of he layout of image data that XCreateImage() expects. My natural instinct is to feed it data as follows. Each row in the following scheme represents 1 byte (in the case of a 16bpp image) [ red Most Significant Byte ] [ red Least Significant Byte ] [ green Most Significant Byte ] [ green Least Significant Byte ] [ blue Most Significant Byte ] [ blue Least Significant Byte ] The above represents one pixel, the top-left hand corner pixel. Next pixel would be the one to its left, and so on, completing one scanline. An alternate data layout would be to have first all the red data for a scanline, then all the green data and then all the blue data for the scanline. Would someone please tell me which format XCreateImage() expects? Thanks. Paul ___ Devel mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/devel

Hi Alan, On Sat, 2003-02-15 at 12:44, Alan Hourihane wrote: Have a go at trying to fix it with changing the line above. Well, I guess I've been too fast here. The problem doesn't come from the code I cited, sorry. Actually, it seems to be related to the size of the output (or maybe a ratio between the source and destination sizes ?) Xv window, but not the way I thought it was... Sorry about this. It seems I'm not able to track down what is the exact limit for the problem to show up. It's probably something like a 600x400 window. I've added traces, all arround and I've also tried to remove the VID_DOUBLE_LINEBUFFER_FOR_WIDE_SRC flag and it has no effect. Amazingly enough, I have 1 video that doesn't show the problem, whatever the size of the output window (maybe RGB not showing the problem while YUV does ? I don't know if that makes any sense). All other videos I have show the problem. Any clue where I should look next ? Re: [XFree86] nVidia GeForce2 MX on PPC
On Fri, Feb 14, 2003 at 04:12:07PM -0800, r.sesser scrawled: I've compiled 4.2.99.3 several times now (with the nv driver) and the last couple of times, the X server dies and hangs the machine. I don't know what's different this time as opposed to the time when it was working. Here are some specs: PowerPC G4 733 (Quicksilver 2001) nVidia GeForce2 MX (AGP 4x) Stock Kernel (2.4.19-4a) and Ben H (2.4.21-ben5) Yellowdog 2.3 The weird thing is, is that if I compiled the fbriva into the kernel, X would work. If I started up with the 'novideo' option (which is the way the YDL site recomends), X would hang and I would have to do a hard reset. I have a couple of log files and my config file here http://www.randys.org/ydl/. I'm not quite sure what's going on here but if someone has any pointers I'd be happy to hear them. I don't have access to the machine right now so I can't get the specs on the nVidia device...I can later if that would help. If I use the kernel fb, will I get hardware acceleration? Or do I have to use the 'novideo' option in the kernel arguments like the YDL site recomends? I'm confused on this issue. Also, is it only necessary to use '#define XF86ExtraCardDrivers nv' in the host.def with the PPC platform? Will this change in the 4.3 release? This has not, so far, changed: my Debian packages still patch this. IMHO it should change. As to your GeForce2 problem, I can't really ascertain as to what it is, but I eventually got my GeForce4 in my PowerMac working, using offb. Using rivafb just caused difficulties. [XFree86] Unsupported card.
Hope this helps. I got this message after trying to configure a laptop I just bought. I'd like to use the X window system on it, as I have a 15' TFT screen, but a SIS 650 as video card. I'm having problems also trying the vesa driver to get it to use almost a 1024x768, if not a 1280x1024 resolution. Does any of ou have any tip on how to do that ? If you answer, please CC me, as I'm not subscribed to the list. Thanks PS: I'm using FreeBSD 5.0 XFree86 Version 4.2.1 / X Window System (protocol Version 11, revision 0, vendor release 6600) Release Date: 3 September 2002 If the server is older than 6-12 months, or if your card is newer than the above date, look for a newer version before reporting problems. Re: [XFree86] X on Dell Inspiron 2650
On Fri, 14 Feb 2003, pura life CR wrote: Hi, I have a Dell inspiron 2650 running FreeBSD 4.7-stable. The machine has a NVidia GeForce 2 Go video card. I would like to know if that hardware runs on XFree86 4.2.1 and how can I configure? Can anyone please send me a config file similar? The docs at xfree86.org says: Support (accelerated) for the Riva 128, 128ZX, TNT, TNT2 (Ultra, Vanta, M64), GeForce (DDR, 256), Quadro, GeForce2 (GTS, Ultra, MX), GeForce3, and Quadro2 is provided by the nv driver. But, I dont know if Go is another type of card and It is not supported. Please, someone explain me and help to set up X on this laptop. Install one of the 4.2.99.x snapshots available on ftp.xfree86.org. It wasn't supported in earlier versions of the nv driver. Re: [XFree86] nVidia GeForce2 MX on PPC
What version is your xc/programs/Xserver/hw/xfree86/drivers/nv/nv_setup.c ? 1.27 is the newest version and has BigEndian fixes in it. I recommend that you use offb instead of rivafb. And you shouldn't need the 'novideo' option. Mark. ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
