I can't reproduce this on my card (same as yours but a little newer). The main difference between the generic vesa driver and the dedicated sis driver is that the vesa driver always uses 60Hz. Try reducing the VRefresh range to 60Hz, perhaps yourr switch does not like such high frequencies.
