Re: XAA and banked memory
XAA itself doesn't care. You set the LINEAR_FRAMEBUFFER in the XaaInfoRec Flags if you have a linear framebuffer. If you don't set that flag it won't put pixmaps in offscreen memory (because the software rendering code won't be able to deal with them), and it won't use an offscreen pixmap cache for the same reason unless you provide XAA's ImageWrite, WritePixmap or WritePixmapToCache replacement functions. The most difficult part of banked framebuffers is the software fallback code. I'm not sure what the status on the banking layer is. Marc La France would know. Mark. 2 questions about radeon driver
I have two questions for you about the radeon driver. the first relates to the CP and accel. I'm attempting to convert the Xv code to use the CP. how do you check to find out if the driver is using CP or MMIO accel? I considered using info-directRenderingEnabled, but as far as I can see the radeon can use the CP for accel even if the DRI is disabled. It's probably obvious, I'm just missing it. secondly, is there a way we could switch to software rendering if the total width or height of or all rendering windows is larger than 2048? Since we seem to be hw limited by that, it'd be nice if the driver would just switch to software after 2048 rather than just showing a blank window or in some cases locking up the video card. It might be too much of a pain in the butt though... thanks, Alex __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! RE: 2 questions about radeon driver
CP mode means using an engine on the chip that gets the command data from main memory by itselves, some sort of busmaster DMA stream. MMIO means that the driver does program the chipset directly via its memory mapped registers. DRI means direct rendering and is the most common socket for current OpenGL implementation upon some kernel module supplied and shared resources. XAA is the 2D accelleration which can be done either in MMIO (helps quite a lot for bring up) or CP mode - it might make use of some kernel module supplied resources in CP mode. But there is no need or requirement that DRI is exposed in that mode, only the other way round if you are having DRI then its highly likely to have the XAA running in CP mode as well. therefore presence of HW accellerated OpenGL does indicate that the XAA is as well running in CP mode. If you need to know hos the XAA is operating then you should hook into the driver. its not common to let external applications know or even assume either state because they are outside of the 2D display driver. let me assume you are trying something that does go byond the concept - either you implement Xv functionality inside or close to the 2D driver or you are asking for heavy trouble. -Alex. -Original Message- From: Alex Deucher [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, August 19, 2003 21:50 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: 2 questions about radeon driver I have two questions for you about the radeon driver. the first relates to the CP and accel. [XFree86] DisplaySize
Hi there. I'm running Gentoo 1.4 on a Dell latitude c840 which can take resolutions up to 1600x1200. I quickly get tired if using that resolution in X and I wish to lower it since my screen is only 15. The problem is that if I choose any other resolution than 1600x1200 my picture gets smaller. Like when you reset the settings on your monitor. The width and height of the image doesn't use the entire area of the screen, and suddenly I have the 1600x1200-like problem again but with a lower resolution. I wish to use the entire screen. I have figured out that DisplaySize in /etc/X11/XF86Config is supposed to set the size of the monitor in millimeters, but xfree doesn't seem to use the value given on this line at all. So I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong or if I'm entering non-valid values. Everything else modified in this file is used by xfree and the logs tell me that this is the file that is loaded. Google doesn't seem to be my friend anymore and I can't find much information about this on the xfree.org site or anywhere else. So I'm asking for your divine help. RE: [XFree86] plz i need help
you should check having suffient modelines and modes listed in your /etc/X11/XF86Config(-4) file. other than that, /var/log/XFree86.0.log does show your more details on which specific parameter a single given modeline is failing. most often the h-sync and v-sync ranges are inapropiate. -Alex. [XFree86] XFree86 problems
Hello. First of all I must say I am using Linux since a month (only in console mode... still trying to start X). What I mean is that I am able to use commands but I still don't really know how configuration files work (still reading on that). So, I am sending you the full message I reveive when I type startx (it's joined to the E-Mail). May be the Fatal error: No screens detected will seem strange to you (it is!) but I have to say my screen work (well... in console mode...). Here is some information about my system, if it can help you. I am using a pentium 133 mhz with a Ati 128 as video card. The linux distribution I am using is Linux Mandrake 7.0. It would be great if you could help me with this problem (I am stuck). Tell me if you need any more information. Note: This system was given to me by someone (he hadn't any information about it). I am sure the video card is using a chipset Ati Rage 128 but I don't know if it's a fury or magnum or pro or whatever(it's not written on it). It's the same thing for my monitor (it's written Magnavox on the front and Phillips at the back and I don't know anything about the VertRefresh or the HorizSync. That's why I put Ati Rage 128 (generic) as video card and the lowest numbers possible as VertRefresh, etc. Note: Sorry for my poor english, I am french. But if you can answer me, do it in english, I will understand. _ MSN Search, le moteur de recherche qui pense comme vous ! http://fr.ca.search.msn.com/ XFree86.0.log Description: Binary data
[XFree86] The MIME information you requested (last changed 3154 Feb 14)
-- What is MIME? MIME stands for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions. It is the standard for how to send multipart, multimedia, and binary data using the world-wide Internet email system. Typical uses of MIME include sending images, audio, wordprocessing documents, programs, or even plain text files when it is important that the mail system does not modify any part of the file. MIME also allows for labelling message parts so that a recipient (or mail program) may determine what to do with them. How can I read a MIME message? Since MIME is only a few years old, there are still some mailers in use which do not understand MIME messages. However, there are a growing number of mail programs that have MIME support built-in. (One popular MIME-capable mailer for Unix, VMS and PCs is Pine, developed at the University of Washington and available via anonymous FTP from the host ftp.cac.washington.edu in the file /pine/pine.tar.Z) In addition, several proprietary email systems provide MIME translation capability in their Internet gateway products. However, even if you do not have access to a MIME-capable mailer or suitable gateway, there is still hope! There are a number of stand-alone programs that can interpret a MIME message. One of the more versatile is called munpack. It was developed at Carnegie Mellon University and is available via anonymous FTP from the host ftp.andrew.cmu.edu in the directory pub/mpack/. There are versions available for Unix, PC, Mac and Amiga systems. For compabibility with older forms of transferring binary files, the munpack program can also decode messages in split-uuencoded format. Does MIME replace UUENCODE? Yes. UUENCODE has been used for some time for encoding binary files so that they can be sent via Internet mail, but it has several technical limitations and interoperability problems. MIME uses a more robust encoding called Base64 which has been carefully designed to survive the message transformations made by certain email gateways. How can I learn more about MIME? The MIME Internet standard is described in RFC-1521, available via anonymous FTP from many different Internet hosts, including: o US East Coast Address: ds.internic.net (198.49.45.10) o US West Coast Address: ftp.isi.edu (128.9.0.32) o Pacific Rim Address: munnari.oz.au (128.250.1.21) o Europe Address: nic.nordu.net (192.36.148.17) Look for the file /rfc/rfc1521.txt Another source of information is the Internet news group comp.mail.mime, which includes a periodic posting of a Frequently Asked Questions list. -- ___ XFree86 mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/xfree86
