I have more info. using 4.2.99.5.
However, chars typed with AltGr have still problems for use in compose
sequences, eg if I have to type AltGr-2 to have asciitilde

I am trying RedHat's latest beta which includes XFree 4.2.99.3 and there
is a bug in the xkb code. I cannot configure a proper French Canadian
keyboard. When specifying ca_enhanced in the XF86Config file, some
keys on the keyboard are not mapped properly.

The bottom 5th of the screen is not addressed properly in some
cases. If I start the X server with no background bitmap or windows,
the old contents (from a rum with XF86_S3) of the frame buffer is
displayed in that region.

For the record, I have this working on an IBM ThinkPad T30 laptop with the
ATI Radeon M7 LW (Radeon Mobility 7500) running
I've not been able to get a driver to work for an ATI RV100 video 'card' -
it's on the motherboard, a Sapphire Axion IGP-320/A3-M275 for AMD. I've
tried various combinations, including the radeon driver with XFree86 4.1,
and also the ati driver with 4.2.1. From what I can gather it's not
ARRRGGGHHH That was the wrong version...

far back as I can remember. Certainly before 2.0, and likely before
emacs.
