Let me propose a hardware solution. Try using mouse pads with a built in wrist rest. My wife had this problem and getting her this type of pad sorted out the problem. For the record I used a pad made by d boeder, now called Ednet. The wrist rest is gel filled. The pad itself is oval. The

If I understand your question correctly you want to ba able to boot into text mode, without starting KDE. You can try the following. Note that this is based on Mandrake but it should be similar in red hat. Press Control-Alt-F1. This will take you to a text mode session. Log in and then type
