Re: Storing notes in separate files: Excessive?

I was thinking of using Yojimbo as a blogging tool of sorts, to
write up thoughts on things that may be just a sentence or two.
I noticed that Yojimbo stores each note in a separate file,
unlike DevonThink. Isn't this excessive? Each note is a 4K
block on disk and these add up.

Yojimbo stores its data using the OS X Core Data system, which
puts everything in a single database. It doesn't store any data
in separate files. What's making you think that it does?

[ANN] Yojimbo 1.5

2007-12-05 Thread Rich Siegel

Good { morning, afternoon, evening } all,

We are pleased and proud to announce the release and immediate
availability of Yojimbo 1.5. This new version adds support for
images as a first-class item type, improves built-in searching
performance and Spotlight accuracy, and includes bug fixes and
minor refinements based in no small measure on your feedback. :-)

Please take a few moments to read the change notes, available here:

http://www.barebones.com/support/yojimbo/current_notes.shtml

This upgrade is available free of charge to all registered
Yojimbo 1.x customers and can be downloaded from the Yojimbo
software updates page:

http://www.barebones.com/support/yojimbo/updates.shtml

Complete text of the press release is here:

http://www.barebones.com/company/press.php?news_id=168

The Yojimbo demo has also been updated; anyone not currently
using Yojimbo

is welcome to download and try it out:

http://www.barebones.com/products/yojimbo/demo.shtml

Yojimbo requires Mac OS X 10.4.3 or later, and is compatible
with Mac OS X 10.5. We strongly recommend use of the most
current system update available (10.4.11 or 10.5.1,
respectively). Yojimbo is a Universal application which runs
natively on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs.

Enjoy,

Re: What does Bare Bones think of Webjimbo?

I've seen a few remarks on this list about Webjimbo, but I am curious

Webjimbo is a clever product which clearly fills a need which
some of our customers have (but which I don't personally share).
Adrian's clearly put a lot of effort into it, and as I recall,
it accesses our customers' data using a means that we have
created for that purpose (namely, the AppleScript interface).

So although Webjimbo represents a feature that we'd be unlikely
to implement ourselves in that form, we've no objection to its
existence per se. :-)

Not in any way that I'm aware. :-)

I've always preferred webarchives to PDFs ... But maybe I'm mistaken?

I can't speak to mistaken on matters of personal preference.
I'd suggest giving print-to-PDF a try for this purpose and see
how it works for you...

Re: Wish: smart collections by type

It would be cool if one could make smart collections by type (say
just PDFs, or just docs, etc) .

I would think it would be pretty straightforward as YJ already has
that info for each entry in it's database.

The factory default smart collections (see the Smart
Collections item on the View menu) do something very much like
that; does that do the job for you?
