Sure it is, iff you are working under Unix.

In my experience most people switch to git because "everybody else"
uses it.

More or less. In my opinion more the latter.
git is a long way off from a good windows port, because of the way it
was build.

No need to get agressive.

All I wanted to know was whether all alternatives where checked.
I.e. WHY it was choosen.

I don't have a problem if SOCI uses git. But personally I always try
to find the best solution for a problem. That's one of the reasons why
I use SOCI in my projects and why I have switched from git to
mercurial.
