Let's not argue about the colour of the bike shed, shall we? They made their call. For all the arguments for or against one system, you could find a dozen for or against the other. (sure, Google, Mozilla, Python and Sun like Mercurial but the Linux kernel, Perl, Gnome, Samba, X.org, Qt, Ruby on Rails and Wine use git and those aren't exactly insignificant projects).
I was oh-so-ready to simply install a Mercurial extension to pull down git repositories (http://hg-git.github.com/) until I realized that SourceForge does not serve git over HTTP which means my evil corporate firewall still will not let me clone the SOCI repository. One of the positive things about github is that you can ask them for a zip or tarball of a project and they will send it to you on the fly. Does Sourceforge provide this feature somewhere? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mateusz Loskot" <[email protected]> To: "Rainer Bauer" <[email protected]> Cc: "Maciej Sobczak" <[email protected]>; "General-purpose list for SOCI users ." <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, May 01, 2009 6:00 PM Subject: Re: [SOCI-users] Farewell CVS > > Rainer Bauer wrote: >> Friday, May 1, 2009, 12:34:16 AM, you wrote: >> >> ML> Rainer Bauer wrote: >>>> Thursday, April 30, 2009, 2:28:42 PM, you wrote: >>>> >>>> MS> Following repeated requests to leave CVS behind, the CVS >>>> repository has MS> been converted to Git. >>>> >>>> Although I second moving to a DVCS, I wonder why git was choosen. >>>> >> >> ML> Because it's a good piece of software, usable and stable. >> >> Sure it is, iff you are working under Unix. > > I develop software (SOCI included) on Windows mostly. > >> In my experience most people switch to git because "everybody else" >> uses it. > > OK > >> ML> Maciej likes it.
