Had a busy few days.

I had to
1. Build a temporary mail/web server (old desktop), freebsd 8.3
2. Rebuild my file server (via epia fanless) because it was booting from my
sandisk CF.  It seems
just as happy with a Lexar CF card instead.
3. Install freebsd 8.3 onto 4G sandisk CF and get net5501 to boot from it.
4. reconfigure bind, dhcpd, pf etc to made everything else work

So my net5501 now has a 4G sandisk CF master and 40G laptop drive slave,
currently empty.

Next job is to do any final optimisation and migrate the mail/web jails back
onto the net5501.
Should be easy enough I think.

Before I do that, some questions.

1. I get these complaints in dmesg
ad0: FAILURE - READ_DMA status=51<READY,DSC,ERROR> error=10<NID_NOT_FOUND>
LBA=7813119
ad0: FAILURE - READ_DMA status=51<READY,DSC,ERROR> error=10<NID_NOT_FOUND>
LBA=7813119
but other than that it seems fine
I have this in /boot/device.hints
hint.ata.0.mode="UDMA33"
on advice from http://wiki.soekris.info/Installing_FreeBSD
I changed UDMA66 to UDMA33 as it said UDMA33 when I built the OS on the epia PC
is this a problem?

2. Thinking about flash drive wearout, I set option "rw,noatime" in fstab as my
understanding is
that this is a good idea with solid state drives. Presumably I should disable
swap on the CF and
put a swap partition on the laptop drive? Should I mount /var on the laptop
drive as well?  what
about other partitions? the jails will be on there. I would like to be able
to survive a hard
drive failure without the whole thing failing (there will be scripts to back up
the jails elsewhere).

3. Last question, but a long one :-) are there any problems with my kernel
config below. Maybe it
will be useful to someone else. I figured that it might be useful to be able
to attach a usb drive
or cdrom but I'm not interested in much else.

thanks, Philip
