There used to be a donation button on the homepage. The money went to
the original author of the software, Daniel Turing -- but he no longer
works on the project.

At the time I took over maintenance of swfmill we removed the button
because there's no good place for the money to go. I don't think there
is anyone who would spend more time on swfmill as a result of
donations. It would be especially dishonest for me to accept donations
because my contributions account for a tiny fraction of swfmill's
code.

(Regarding Thomas' original question: He sent me a private email
asking the same question and I replied saying, roughly, that the GPL
permits this usage. I haven't bothered repeating that answer here.
Except that now I have.)

Regards,
Dan.
