Is there anybody else out there who has decided to
dispense with the all-one-direction edges?

Is there anyone with a cogent and convincing argument
why they're a good idea?

On my early double-faced bands I skipped the warp-twined edges completely to be able to concentrate on weaving the pattern and they don't look bad at all. The bands are quite firm and hold themselves together nicely (I used 60/2 silk).

But these days I always do the warp-twined edges, I just think they make my bands look a little bit neater and they do add some stability. Also, I don't use a ruler when I weave and I find that the parallell lines the twined edges make help my eyes to estimate the width of the band and to keep it consistent. I like techniques with only two threads per tablet too, and the extra stability provided by the edges really makes a difference on those types of bands...

So warp-twined edges work for me, and that's reason enough for me to use them! But if you're happy without them, Michael, I can see no reason to try to convince you otherwise ;-) - your work's wonderful as it is!!! :-)
