Writing this email as a review for *Garmin eTrex Vista Hcx* so other potential users can use this. Also to check if I am the only one with these issues.
1. The altimeter loses altitude all of a sudden at times when there is actually no loss of altitude. Just 2 or 3 examples. A few days ago, while climbing a mountain pass, it suddenly lost 100 metres altitude. Today morning, it lost 130 metres in a flash. I swear I did not jump down that distance. :) A point to note though, all this happens only when climbing or coming down a mountain. I am talking altitudes above 2000 metres above MSL. 2. The altimeter calibrates with a long delay. After a long climb up a mountain pass, I had to wait for 45 minutes for the altimeter to stabilize. It was at 3159 metres when I reached the top and stabilized at 3261 metres, a whole 102 metres of increase. 3. I parked my car near a village a day before, marked a waypoint. The satellite error was at +- 5metres. Today morning, I came back and marked another waypoint. This time the error was +-4 metres but this waypoint is 150 metres off the earlier one. The car keys were with me and I can vouch that my car does not move on its own. :) Would just like to figure out if any of you have had the same issue with this model or any other Garmin GPS. Regards, Shalabh
