First, you should still rebuild libdrm, as it is linked against the kernel headers (which has changed). Second, everything must be in sync; kernel module, libdrm, X drivers, libva, etc. It's an all or nothing upgrade. Granted, you don't need the 3D drivers for 2D X to work, but you can't mix and match versions.
