> Of Ezra Steinberg >British scientists seem to consistently say "kill-AH-mih-ter" >instead of "KILL-oh-mee-ter"
I live in Britain and hear ki-LOM-iter, KILL-o-meeter and KILL-a-meeter. I can't help you with frequency of use of each version. >and regularly say"Centigrade" instead of "Celsius". Weather people in Britain always say 'Celsius' as far as I know. My impression is that Brits are more likely to use the correct name than Americans but 'Centigrade' is still commplace in the UK. My father is a scientist but still says Centigrade by habit. When I correct him, he acknowledges that it is wrong and trys to use the right term while he remembers.
