Everything has been working fine for nearly a year; but today, when I left my office for just a few minutes, when I came back, the monitor screen was black and I could not get any response. I am running Mandrake Linux (8.1) and the K-desktop. I've had no problems prior to today. When I tried to switch to another terminal [ALT] F4, F5, etc. still black. So I tried a different monitor and it works on F1-F6 and F11 displays a graphical display, but F7 where X is supposed to be running is black. When I tried 'startx' on another terminal, I got the error messages shown below.
How do I get things cleared out so X will start again? It seems whatever happened blew my primary monitor, also. I have everything on a UPS, so I don't think it was a power spike.
