I guess I missed the part where you were needing to "share" a printer between OS 9 and OS X machines. In my experience, this does not work well at all. Search Apple's support site for "OS X printer sharing" for more info, but essentially, it says that trying to share a printer between OS X and OS 9 machines may result in the printer being available to neither.
