I disagree with the UR quote because UR tried to distance themselves away
from techno when
Interstellar Fugitives came out, denouncing techno and promoting hi-tek
funk.
People who have a problem categorizing techno calling it anything music, or
anything made with
technology seem to not have a problem categorizing other forms of music like
House, Jazz,
Blues, Disco.
Yet you walk into a record store and dont see Moodyman or Blaze or DJ
Assault in the techno
section, or the man behind the counter refering to those artist as techno.
Do you see Innerzone Orchestra or the music on the Planet E label (newer
stuff excluding The
Climax) described as techno or Detroit techno in record store new stock
list.
I more than often see people associating the word techno with Marco Carola
or Jeff Mills
when they use it with Derick May's name it's usually in past tense like
"Techno Innovator" or
"Techno Pioneer."
