Subject: RE: (313) grim is new? (was techno renaissance - this is
getting ridiculous)

>I'm not sure if you are joking here but I think it is perfectly reasonable
to grow up in Croydon listening to UK Garage and Hip Hop and >then go on to
make 'grime' while at the same time being unaware of Plastikman - get a
hold of yourselves peeps - we live in a tiny >enclosed little world that
most people will never know or care about - we shouldn't be at all
surprised or offended that the demigods >of 313 techno are off the radar in
the big bad world of grime, bosh, bonebreaks and slosh music or whatever
the new genre is. It is >rather arrogant of us to presume that anyone with
an interest in music made with machines has got to have heard Richie or
Derrick, or >should even care about them.

I just read an interview where he (Plasticman) admits to finding out about
the connection with Richie Hawtin and he still won't change the name.

"I don?t want to change my name right now. I?m just starting to break. The
scene is still fresh and new, and in 5 years time I want people to be able
to look back and see that I was doing my thing from the start."

He might use a "Q" instead of a "C" apparently

Personally, if I had found out someone had been using a name for a long
time before I came along - I'd change it tout de suite.
If he wants to have people think he was doing his "thing from the start" I
think it would be best to come up with something that doesn't make him look
like he's biting someone else's game.
