The binary only one periodically causes me headaches on a real time kernel. The downside is that it may not support all the features or resolutions that your card does. If you need 3d performance, the latest ATI cards have an open source 3d driver. Also note that the open source driver is *not* compatible with older ATI devices, it is onlWhile not as mature as the Intel ones, this is certainly a workable option.
