These days I have an LG DVD-RW in a USB enclosure and a Sony USB DVD-RW as I don't even bother with putting them into systems anymore. K3B works like a champ with this setup. Of course you need a recent machine for this to work trouble free.
It is never a bad idea to ask questions, unless of course the question is in the FAQ. People get annoyed by that as you have found out. Increasingly reading the FAQ also means doing a basic google search, though this has problems as typified by the so-called killall jackd "problem".
