The decision to use Ubuntu sources was to do with predictable release schedules rather than intentionally weakening security. If you try 3.0 beta3 you will find it much like 2.1, except with lots of newer package versions (ardour 2.7, rosegarden 1.7.3 for example). We will definitely be tightening up security by the time of the 3.0 release candidates though. Our aim is to be at least as secure as a default installation of Debian stable. Cheers!
