Hi Michael :) > My mail describes, how to do it. >
Okay, what I tried to say was, that it might be better if 64 Studio will enable the CPU speed control by default. There should be an icon on the desktop (not only in the panel) by default, so that every new 64 Studio user gets aware that the CPU is controlled. > hdparm works, but you can't put the harddisk with the root partition on > it to sleep. Other harddisks will if you write the right parameters > to /etc/hdparm.conf. > I used hdparm by the shell and it didn't work, independently if I run a Linux from my IDE and tried to turn off the SATA or if I run a Linux from my SATA and try to turn of the IDE. After 2 minutes they will start again. For Windows all hard disks are turned of after a while, it works, okay, maybe it's not good for the hard disks lifetime if the drive with the running OS is turned off and on and off and on ... ;). Cheers, Ralf
