Hi Mathias :)

I didn't know that this is done for 'professional' amps. There's a
reason for preferring active monitors for studio usage ;). When I was
listening to the chart music I didn't it by using my home recording amp
and monitors, but by using low expensive consumer stuff I found by bulk
rubbish. This compact system from the bulk rubbish has buttons for
"FLAT", "CLASSIC", "ROCK" and "POP" and in addition a button to enable/
disable "X-BASS". I downloaded the chart music by MP3s, because I don't
listen to this kind of music.

MP3 and such a compact system I used are common, but even best MP3s are
bad and I know that even when I chose "FLAT" and disabled "X-BASS", the
sound wasn't linear. I didn't use the subwoofer, but the compact system
got the signals by my mixing console, so I tested some EQ settings.

It has been a problem all the time to mix music for different equipment,
but today even expensive consumer amps are including trash like
convolution, that should emulate cinema sound.

That's the problem with digital. Having discreet circuits for analogue
audio equipment is always the best way.
The new digital stuff is like a powdered soup, while discreet analogue
circuits allow us to see the tomatoes and potatoes.

I'm also not a fan of surround sound and music that is made for
interactive usage. In the past there always were the single and LP
version of a song and for disco usage there was a louder 12".

Cheers,
Ralf
