Hi :)
during the weekend I made music. Not surprising, there were glitches
playing SynAddSubFx when the frequency scaling was set up "Ondemand",
but it was fine when it was set to "Performance". Btw. SynAddSubFx
doesn't understand MIDI volume control and when changing the volume for
an instrument of SynAddSubFx, the effect level needs to be readjusted.
For Hydrogen the effect level needs to be readjusted when the master
volume was changed. This is a bad behaviour by both apps, but I should
address this to the coders and not to you.
I only used Qtractor as MIDI sequencer to control SynAddSubFx and
Hydrogen. I didn't use Hydrogen's own sequencer, it was used as a sound
module only.
My master keyboard was connected by USB MIDI to Qtractor and Qtractor
was connected by ALSA MIDI to SynAddSubFx and Hydrogen.
Audio outs from SynAddSubFx and Hydrogen were connected to JAMin and
JAMin was connected to system and when doing the recording to Qtractor's
inputs too. An audio track was used for the mastering only. I didn't use
any plugins with Qtractor, just the effects of SynAddSubFx and Hydrogen
were used.
Used applications were QjackCtl, Qtractor, SynAddSubFX, Hydrogen, JAMin
and sometimes the GNOME terminal running atop and the Nautilus file browser.
$ cat .jackdrc
/usr/bin/jackd -R -dalsa -dhw:0 -r96000 -p512 -n2
Bug report to 64 Studio because of
*Hydrogen*
Permanently the version of Hydrogen of an upgraded 64 Studio
3.0-beta3 crashed, it's 0.9.3-5ubuntu2 (hardy) and while Hydrogen
was running other applications seems to be less stable than before,
at least JAMin crashed one time.
There were no crashes when I used Qtractor and SynAddSubFx only, but
there were crashes, "normally" for Hydrogen when Hydrogen was added,
but also before I added JAMin too.
Opening the effect section of Hydrogen very often the set parameters
for effects changed.
Bug report to Rui because of
*Qtractor*
I used Qtractor 0.4.2.1401 with VST support Qt 4.4.0 and Rubber Band
1.3. I didn't use VST.
Note length grid edit isn't fine for clips that have got an offset
unequal 0.
When in use with SynAddSubFx, Hyrdogen and JAMin sometimes the JACK
connections were not correctly restored after an application
crashed, was opened again and the song was loaded again by Qtractor.
Effectively one application often crashed, Hydrogen. I launched JACK
by QjackCtl, but didn't use QjackCtl for connecting clients.
In addition I don't like it, that Qtractor auto-connects to system.
When an audio track of Qtractor is played while the audio level is
raised by the mixer of Qtractor, everything sounds all right, but
when recording this to another audio track by Qtractor, there's a
loss on sound quality for this new recorded track.
This was done by connecting Qtractor's audio outs to Qtractors audio
ins plus connecting Qtractor's audio outs to system playbacks,
instead of using the monitoring.
The master recording of SynAddSubFx and Hydrogen as an audio track
by Qtractor has a minimal loss off sound quality for the
ferquencies, the loudness is accurate as it's set. When rerecording
this track by making it louder, the new audio track has an
unacceptable loss of sound quality, while the loudness again is
accurate.
Cheers,
Ralf
