What billing strategies do you guys use?

To protect myself, I usually bid high on new clients.  I double,
possibly triple what I think it's going to take.

If I think that it's going to take 2 hours, I'll bid 6. If I do it in
2 hours, I'll maybe charge 3, and tell them that b/c I finished things
early I used that extra time to do something else important on their
network. If they contest what I did, then I'll offer to give them
their money back (which I've never had anyone take me up on).

I've done this twice over the last month, and each time it seemed to work.

Overall, I just give a broad range (say, 1-4 hours).  I tell them I
don't know but if they hire me, then they should be prepared to spend
the 4 hours. Once I build enough political capital, I usually don't
have to deal with this.
