Why don't you try them and find out <smile>? I'd be happy to write/talk about the finances of hosting at any time; is there any interest in such a discussion, or is it too far off-topic? Chris seems to have found a link to the domain ownership in Holland. I don't know where he found that, but all I found was an enom registration with the following information: Registrant Contact: Whois Privacy Protection Service, Inc. Whois Agent ([email protected]) +1.4252740657 Fax: +1.4256960234 PMB 368, 14150 NE 20th St - F1 C/O limitfreehosting.com Bellevue, WA 98007 US Here's their traceroute: $ traceroute 81.21.75.148 traceroute to 81.21.75.148 (81.21.75.148), 30 hops max, 38 byte packets 1 192.168.2.1 (192.168.2.1) 0.811 ms 0.746 ms 0.795 ms 2 67.112.189.222 (67.112.189.222) 11.016 ms 10.928 ms 11.105 ms 3 dist4-vlan60.irvnca.sbcglobal.net (67.114.50.66) 11.611 ms 11.054 ms 11.700 ms 4 bb2-g4-0.irvnca.sbcglobal.net (151.164.43.143) 12.096 ms 12.007 ms 11.428 ms 5 151.164.93.167 (151.164.93.167) 13.051 ms 11.689 ms 11.844 ms 6 asn1299-teliasonera.eqlaca.sbcglobal.net (151.164.248.166) 17.720 ms 12.564 ms 13.606 ms 7 nyk-bb2-link.telia.net (213.248.80.10) 75.431 ms 85.390 ms 73.675 ms 8 nyk-bb1-link.telia.net (213.248.83.21) 74.554 ms nyk-bb1-pos7-1-0.telia.net (213.248.80.70) 75.421 ms nyk-bb2-link.telia.net (80.91.250.18) 74.284 ms 9 ldn-bb2-pos7-1-0.telia.net (213.248.65.93) 145.120 ms ldn-bb2-link.telia.net (80.91.249.250) 140.001 ms ldn-bb2-pos7-1-0.telia.net (213.248.65.93) 144.864 ms 10 ldn-b2-link.telia.net (80.91.250.226) 143.995 ms 146.111 ms 144.016 ms 11 pipex-104657-ldn-b2.c.telia.net (213.248.100.94) 143.636 ms 144.365 ms 145.510 ms 12 g0-1-5.cr03.hx2.bb.pipex.net (62.72.142.3) 142.509 ms 142.115 ms 144.134ms 13 p3-0.cr02.ld3.bb.pipex.net (62.72.156.222) 147.884 ms 147.236 ms 149.634ms 14 v258.ar01.ld3.dco.pipex.net (62.105.126.21) 148.384 ms 148.860 ms 149.995 ms 15 server42.donhost.co.uk (81.21.75.148) 150.514 ms 146.360 ms 147.382 ms $ They're probably either a reseller of Donhost: http://www.donhost.co.uk. My guess is they've got a "Reseller Pro" account, described justly: <snip> The Reseller Pro account allows you to host an unlimited number web sites, each with it's own FTP and email accounts, utilising an unlimited amount of disk space for a flat monthly fee. For each web site you set-up, you can choose whether to host it on a UNIX or a Windows 2003 web server. </snip> <snip> Unmetered Data Transfer </snip> <snip> just £19.99 for the first 3 months </snip> and afterwards: <snip> Monthly £79.99 Setup £29.99 </snip> For what it's worth, today at xe.com: <snip> 19.99 GBP = 40.2343 USD 29.99 GBP = 60.3701 USD 79.99 GBP = 161.020 USD </snip> So even though Donhost is offering something as unlimited, they have, at least, slightly higher prices. And they can probably afford to sell this model (see further, below). And finally, the company contact information for LimitFreeHosting: <snip> Server Location 1 Heather Court Shaw Wood Way Doncaster DN2 5YL, United Kingdom Mailing Address 5715 Will Clayton #2511 Humble, TX 77338 USA Support Center ICT Incubator, 4th Floor-East, BSRS Bhaban, Kawranbazar, Dhaka, BD. Phone: +88011-99804448 Website Development Center 23 Ellolot Road, Calcatta India </snip> Note that the only phone number on the site is their support center in Bangladesh. And that the google advertising at the bottom of their homepage is for competing hosting companies. And that they accept payment only through 2CO; 2CO actually works on a "reseller" model; you're buying from 2Checkout.com (2CO). All the payment links on their signup page (including the one for the U.S.-based Better Business Bureau) are for 2CO, not for them. My guess: they're a bunch of kids here in the U.S. who've figured out they can make a bundle off of the promises of DonHost in the U.S. Your guess? And who are DonHost? Their whois (in Europe you can't legally get away with a "private" registration; anyone who does is breaking the law) says they trade as Donhost, which means they've set up a "dba" (as we call it here) as Donhost. Based on the copyright at the bottom of their pages, and that they offer DSL reselling as well, I'd guess they're actuall Pipex. Can Pipex do it? Yes. Especially at their prices. Can LimitFreeHosting? I'd doubt it. Anyone want a presentation on the economics of the hosting business? Jeff -- Jeff Lasman, Nobaloney Internet Services P.O.
