As I explained in my first enquiry mail, I picked up this tip from other computer help groups. I am not surprised you do not have an anti virus program on your computer because I have found that those in the know, being able to deal with virus infection invariably do not - they seem to like the excitement of the chase. :-) AVG will only put a virus laden mail into the Virus vault when it has detected it, that's usually after the event. When you save to Desktop the attachment is not opened at that point, the recipient, "you", does not know what it contains at that point. I see you agree that the file save anywhere on the computer regardless is subject to guarantee that its clean so, my point is saving an attachment from an e-mail places the attachment on the HD. At the point where an unopened attachment is saved to desktop and scanned, to reveal it is virus laden, then, I am prepared to accept, sending it to the Recycle Bin would infect the HD. I am quite sure its not a new moon just yet and the Christmas fairy never calls on me. :-) The purpose of my enquiry was to share with others that an attachment can be saved to Desktop to be scanned by an anti virus software, but I wanted to know the inside and out of it..
