Janet, I will try to say this as gently as I can. Forgive me if I transgress any boundaries of yours.
Take everything that you pick up on the net with a big grain of salt! And you're generalizing way too much; I know how to deal with viruses (most of the time) and I use good prophylactics. How AVG handles a virus, according to you, is not exactly gospel according to anybody but you. Sorry. Nothing is opened, regardless of where you save it to, until you open it. Your whole line about desktop, recycle bin and HD is, to put it tenderly, a bit flawed. Sorry. I'm sure there are several here (me included) who will only be too glad to walk you through reality but, you have to drop some of these pre-conceived notions first.
