1. Swap slots by putting the RAM stick in Bank #1, in Bank #2 and, vice versa 2. Boot with 256MB RAM by, taking one stick out and, looking at the amount of RAM that is present at bootup and, doing both sticks separately, in both the slots The OS and, format(NTFS, FAT32) should not affect this. If it is the same(412MB) regardless of swapping them, that is a possible problem with the motherboard because, something would be wrong with one of the RAM slots. If, when booting with 256MB RAM, it shows less than 256MB RAM at bootup, then it is the RAM stick.......BUT, remember to bootup with one stick and, bootup by doing the same stick in Bank #1 then, in Bank #2.
