Thank you everyone for the tips, I think that this is sounding like a project for after the holidays. Just one thought - I am running XP home and my two daughters have their own accounts with their own "My Documents" section, then of course we have the shared documents. To me this seems very confusing to try and move and synchronize all these folders. My kids don't have much data on their accounts yet - they use the pc mostly for MSN and internet. Maybe it would be easier to just worry about my own data files, or this is where I am thinking that maybe a clean install is in order? (I hate the thought of that) Debbie _____

Yes Debbie: I would install the new drive as a slave to keep your Data, then I would get a free synchronizing Tool like Microsoft Synctoy and, once I had all my data well organized into sub-folders within one Mother Folder such as My Documents, I would use the tool to Synchronize the My Document on drive C with it's Syntoy twin on your slave drive. Partitioning requires a tool such Partition Magic, but is very simple to use, and yes it will return everything to the way it was if you want. There are some tools that will both Partition and create Images but I am not familiar with them. Someone else may be able to help you. In addition to this I would also consider partitioning your C drive to hold your data. This would give you two levels of security. Then get that partition and your slave to SYNC. The My documents folder is to move to a data partition and safer there. Remember Debbie last year's big hard drive is this years antique.
