Phyllis,
I looked in vain for hints on what you did to access your files and to
troubleshoot the drive problem. Can you describe how the machine booted up
or the error messages when it failed to do so. I think it is premature to
assume that the drive is bad. All sorts of things can keep a drive from
booting, including damaged boot files. Unless you just want to buy a new
drive I would not yet assume that the old drive has it self failed. One
thing you can try if you have a bootable floppy with fdisk on it. Boot then
type fdisk /mbr. That will fix the master boot record.
If you do install in new hard drive you will be able to install the old one
as a slave to retrieve your data files.
