Well, On your motherboard, there are two connections for the ribbon
cables to be attached to the motherboard: IDE1 n' IDE2. Also, There
should be a setting list on the top of the drive, that shows how to set
the jumpers(those little itty bitty black pieces of plastic that go on
the pins of the drive) so, the drive will be 'Master' or, 'Slave'.

They might be similar, BUT, find the markings stating the models of the
two drives and, then, go to www.google.com and, use the model # plus,
the words 'jumper setting', to pull up the EXACT jumper settings for
setting the 40GB to Slave(prior to the data transfer). Then, you will
have to change the 40GB to 'Master', after the data transfer.

I am presuming you have Windows 98 or, 98 SE as the operating system?

To run Fdisk, you will need to get to the 'C::>'. To do that, you will
need to bring up the 'Start' menu, then, 'Progams' and, finally,
'Accesories'. When you are to 'Accessories', you should see something
that says 'Drop to DOS' or, something similar to that. Clicking on that
will get you a DOS screen. Make sure you are in the 'root' directory.
If you are not, you will need to get to 'C:>'

First, You need to fix the jumpers. After you fix the jumpers, you need
to create the partition with Fdisk then, format it with Format.

Fdisk is accessed in DOS. You get to DOS and, type 'fdisk'. It will
bring up a menu where, you can Create, Delete and, Activate partitions.

Since the 40GB will probably be 'D:>' in the beginning, you should type
'format d:\s'. The '\s' is what is known as a 'switch'. The '\s' will
make the drive 'bootable'. As long as the 40GB HD is set to 'Slave' for
the purpose of transferring the data, this will not keep the 10GB from
being the boot drive.

The specs of the 40GB will show up in the list of HDs. In terms of
'drive letter designation', it will become 'E:>' IF, you have a CD drive
already designated as 'D:>' then, yes, the 40GB will temporarily become E;>

Read the detailed instructions I gave above.
