Phyllis,

Crossover cables are special cables designed to enable file transfers
between computers. In the old days, pre USB they used Printer parallel
cables or Serial type cables, like the ones that were used with modems.
I have not used parallel USB cables but they are a special type that go
between computers too for the same purpose. They eliminate the need for
a NIC, network interface cable on both machine. I think that they also
have crossover cables for use with machines that have NICs. But I have
not used them either.

I have had my computers networked for quite some time which I why I have
not used cross over cables in a long time. Another way to transfer
files is with a thumb drive, i.e. flash drive. If the file is no larger
than the size of the drive, i.e. maybe 1 Gigabyte you copy the filed to
the flash drive on one machine, then move it to the other machine and
copy it there. We have so many options today. If I am having troubles
with my network and the files are larger than a Gig, I can use my USB
external drive.
